The cutout for the AR pistol is fairly similar to what is shown, though what I received has a few more customization removable bits in the foam, which is a plus. The non-AR pistol cut out is for a full sized gun. Compact/Sub-Compact guns will not sit as well. The mag cut outs match the full sized pistol setup, though I would say they don't leave you much room for things like extended mags.Pluses:The foam + felt combination makes for nice presentation and clean lines.They do a nice job of trying to generally maximize the case layout.Negatives:Both the AR "pistol" and the secondary pistol storage cutouts are not very attachment friendly. Neither are cut to support a mounted light or other attachments.The large random rectangle cut outs will support 1 556 mag each, but if you have something like a 22LR AR style gun your mags may not fit as well.Case lock is only for looks.Thoughts:As far as practicality goes I'm lumping this one into the neat but novelty block. Why? The handle. The carry handle is perfectly suited for a case with a lite violin inside. Trade a violin for a few pounds of firearms and a few more pounds of ammo, and that slightly angled handle leaves you wanting for a better carry option. Combined with the lack of support for many attachments, and I'd call this case a neat mostly novelty case that would be sufficient if you lived in an apartment or the like and wanted it to be less obvious to your neighbors when you were trekking to the range. No shoulder strap plus violin isn't the most popular instrument today and you're left with a nice, well made range case.
